Balancing development with ecological protection, through practical collaboration.
Botanical North provides regionally focused botanical services across Cape York and northern Australia. Services support mining, infrastructure, agricultural, and land management projects through the delivery of vegetation surveys, threatened species assessments, rehabilitation monitoring, and compliance-aligned field programs.
Work is undertaken in collaboration with clients and project teams to meet site-specific objectives, regulatory requirements, and environmental management commitments.
With 20 years experience undertaking vegetation surveys in the Kimberley, WA, NT and FNQ, we specialize in threatened species surveys, secondary surveys, and Regional Ecosystem (RE) verification. Our principal consultant is dedicated to providing accurate and comprehensive assessments to meet government compliance and to deliver reliable data that supports conservation efforts. Services are delivered to support vegetation management and compliance requirements.
Botanical North envisions a future where conservation is a way of life, where every individual values and protects the environment for generations to come.
Botanical North delivers practical botanical services grounded in field experience, regional knowledge, and regulatory requirements. Every project is tailored to site conditions, project stage, and compliance obligations.
Engagements are shaped by the needs of each client and project stage. Services are delivered across the full project lifecycle — from baseline and approvals through construction, rehabilitation, and post-rehabilitation monitoring. Survey methods, monitoring programs, and outputs are adapted to align with environmental authorities, development approvals, and reporting commitments.
Work is primarily field-based and focused on the collection of high-quality ecological data. Field programs include vegetation surveys, rehabilitation monitoring, threatened species assessments, and seed collection. Data is recorded, analysed, and reported to support project requirements, long-term monitoring, and regulatory reporting.
With over 20 years’ experience working across northern Australia and seven years in the Weipa region, Botanical North brings strong regional knowledge to every project. This includes an understanding of seasonal constraints, tropical ecosystems, and local flora across savanna, woodland, rainforest, and vine thicket systems. Experience working alongside Traditional Owners and local organisations is integrated into project delivery where relevant.
All work is undertaken in accordance with relevant legislative and regulatory frameworks. This commonly includes Queensland Herbarium standards for secondary vegetation surveys, BioCondition assessments, and client-specific compliance documentation such as Environmental Authorities and Progressive Rehabilitation and Closure Plans (PRCPs). Survey design and reporting are structured to meet state and federal reporting obligations.
